About
The dental room includes four completed dental offices and a 1950’s dental laboratory. The first two late-19th century, foot-powered wheel dental practices belonged to the donor’s grandfather, Dimitrios Fountis.
They were placed chronologically at the end of the 19th century and one of them was portable! It could be loaded on a sub-zygos, as the dentist was based in Metsovo, but he also commuted to and from Tyrnavos!
The other two, the donor’s father’s and uncle’s, belonged to dental practices that closed after the 1940s, and the last one, the donor’s grandson’s, belonged to a dental practice that ceased to operate at the beginning of the 21st century.
A wealth of tools and equipment accompany the basics, highlighting the evolution of dentistry over the last 150 years. A flashback to the 16th century with the practical “itinerant” dentist, who worked even in the countryside, is the large-scale painting by Ms Papamanolopoulou, which is hung on the wall above the dental laboratory.
