About
A complete operating theatre and a gynaecological examination/surgical bed, with all the necessary equipment, are on display. They belonged to the surgeon Nikolaos Dagoritis (1922-2000). On the walls there are plexiglas plates on which 984 surgical instruments are mounted, grouped together, about ⅔ of which come from clinics in the city of Ioannina (by. E. Lekka, P. Leousis, V. L. Papadopoulos and F. Filios), but also from the Senate Foundation and the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre, and the other ⅓ from the University Hospital of Zurich. Of particular interest are two display cases, donated by Mrs. B. Binder-Strnad, containing handmade surgical instruments made by her father Joseph Strnad. He would design the instrument in collaboration with a surgeon and then make it by hand from raw steel to its final delicate form. These are masterful surgical instruments.
